The Medium-risk Basic Level Kit (HVM2), uses bottled culture media instead of IV bags of culture media, is a lower cost version than the Medium-risk Level Kit (HVM1). USP <797> does specify using IV bags of media. HardyVal™ Medium-risk Level Basic Kit fulfills the spirit of the code, if not to the letter of the code.

Procedure Summary

  1. Aseptically transfer two aliquots of approximately 25ml of sterile Tryptic Soy Broth into each of the empty sterile 50ml vials using gravity tubing. Repeat this process with fresh tubing two more times so that there will be six 50ml vials containing 25ml of test medium.
  2. Transfer Tryptic Soy Broth between empty vials, using a sterile 10ml syringe and 18-gauge needle.
  3. Aseptically transfer 5ml Tryptic Soy Broth to small empty sterile vials using a sterile 10ml syringe and vented needle.
  4. Apply sterile adhesive seals aseptically to the rubber closures once the vials have been filled.
  5. Incubate the vials at 20 șC to 25 șC and/or 30 șC to 35 șC for 14 days.
  6. Examine for turbidity.
  7. Record results on the “Results Log Sheet”.
